PARIS - Elaine Woffinden Webb, 91, died peacefully of natural causes at the Bear
Lake Memorial Skilled Nursing Facility on Wednesday, October 19, 2011. Elaine was born
January 29, 1920, in Garden City, Utah, to Ernest and Viola Woffinden. She was the oldest
of six children, Duard, Rulon, Fenton, Wilma (Mauchley) and LuRae Woffinden. She attended
elementary school in Garden City up to the eighth grade at which time students were then
transported to Laketown to attend high school.
In the winter time if the road was closed because of the snow, students were taken by a
horse-drawn sleigh on the frozen lake bed to Laketown. This was a lot of fun for the
students but didn't last for more than a couple of weeks. They kept warm by a hot rock
placed under a blanket.
She often spoke of a loving and fun childhood. Elaine was active in school,
participating in the girls' basketball program, singing in an operetta, playing the
clarinet, cheerleading, and being a class officer. She graduated from North Rich High
School in May 1938.
After graduation she worked in Garden City for different people until getting married
to her high school sweetheart, Raymond Henderson Webb, in the Logan Temple on June 27,
1941. She and Raymond lived in Logan until he graduated from Utah State University. They
settled in Paris, Idaho, where Raymond taught music at Fielding High School, later
becoming a sales rep for Marsh Wall Corporation.
Elaine was a "stay at home mom" to their three children. Raymond's
attempt at raising turkeys while trying to teach school, heavily involved Elaine's
help as well as many good townspeople, but she still managed her home and children. In
1958, Elaine began working as a secretary for the Bear Lake County Extension Office. In
May 1963, Elaine was widowed at the age of 43, and began working as Bear Lake County
treasurer for the next 28 years, retiring at age 70.
During these years she was active in Fielding High PTA and Emerson PTA, doing volunteer
and fundraising projects.
She was always active in church activities and served as counselor in the Primary,
organist in YWMIA, counselor in the Relief Society, and Sunday school secretary for the
Paris Ward and the Paris, Idaho Stake for many years.
Elaine was the Bear Lake County Democratic chairman and each election would call in the
election results to Boise, Idaho. She retained the chief judge of elections until she
resigned a the age of 84. She remained loyal to contributing to the Democratic Party, the
Alliance for Retired Americans, the American Diabetes Association and many other
She loved painting, bowling, sewing, being a member of the Business and Professional
Women's organization, and loved her friendships with everyone . She enjoyed her
volunteer work at the Paris Museum until 2009, at age 89.
Although a busy woman, her proudest accomplishment and the joy of her life was her
three children, 11 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Elaine is survived by her children, Gene (Patricia) from Washington, Utah, Alan (Karen)
Paris, Idaho, and Kathryn (Paul) of Garden City, Utah; and a sister, Wilma Mauchley of
Logan, Utah; and loved cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and
sister, husband, Raymond, a son, Boyd, and granddaughter, Pamela Webb Sabitis.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2011, at noon at the Paris,
Idaho Stake Center. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services.
Interment will be in the Laketown, Utah Cemetery.

be forever remembered.
