Joseph Robert Einzinger, 83, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2009, in Logan, Utah, from
complications due to diabetes and heart failure. He was born March 13, 1926, in
Montpelier, Idaho, to Joseph and Hallie Tullis Einzinger. He grew up and lived in
Montpelier for 52 years. Three days before graduating from Montpelier High School in 1944,
Robert and many of his friends were drafted into the Army, arriving in Europe after
Patton's army and the Battle of the Bulge. They were part of the liberating troops for
France and Germany. He arrived home from the service in 1946 and attended Utah State
Agricultural College, where he pursued his love for planning and building projects. He was
one of the carpenters in the building of Bear Lake Memorial Hospital in 1948-49. During
his career in Bear Lake County, he custom designed and constructed more than 17 new homes,
remodeled three homes, three stores and one LDS chapel. He was also Bear Lake County
Building Inspector for two years. He mar!
ried in 1946 but was later divorced. To this union were born Randall D., Rebecca and
Dwight R. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all
his life, serving in the Montpelier 2nd Ward bishopric for six and a half years, and was
actively involved in the Scouting program. He loved music, performing in a barbershop
quartet and playing the piano and organ by ear. In 1978, he moved his family to Logan
where he was Logan city building inspector for 13 years. He served in the Logan Spring
Hollow Branch as counselor and then as president for six and a half years. On Sept. 25,
1981, he married Marilyn Whitehead Lowe. They were sealed in October 1982 for time and all
eternity in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. Robert devoted his life caring for Marilyn and
her needs and she nurtured and took wonderful care of him. They brought much love and
happiness to each other. When Robert's health started to fail, they were both faced
with many challenges. He ador!
ed his children and grandchildren and with his marriage to Marilyn he
gained more children and grandchildren. All were the joy of his life to the very end.
Robert is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of Logan; daughter, Rebecca Briggs, of
Smithfield; son, Dwight R (Irene) of Logan; daughter-in-law, Karen Einzinger, of
Smithfield; stepson, Rick (Sannette) Lowe, of Kaysville; stepdaughter, Valerie (Jim)
Didericksen, of Centerville; 15 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Paul, of
Felton, Calif; sister, Mary Jean (Glenn), of Montpelier, Idaho; sisters-in-law: Shirley
(Frayne) Hobbs, of Orem; Grace (George) Long, of Ogden; Joyce (Perry) Shumway, of Brigham
City; and nieces: Cyndie (Jim) Birch, of Cokeville, Wyo.; Teresa (Blair) Keetch, of Malta,
Idaho; and Annette Barnson, of Montpelier, Idaho; who have been an important part of
Robert's life. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Randall D. Einzinger;
sisters-in-law, Helen Einzinger and Gwen Baird; nephews, Kurt Einzinger, David and Andrew
Barnson; and a niece, Jenny Barnson. Fu!
neral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009, in the Logan 12th Ward
chapel, 940 Three Point Ave., Logan, with Bishop Nev Pulotu conducting. A viewing will be
held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E. 400 North, Logan, and from
9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the church prior to services. Interment will be in the
Franklin, Idaho Cemetery with military rites provided by the American Legion. Condolences
