POCATELLO — Edith "Edyth" B. Kunz Kirby, 90, passed away peacefully Friday, May
17, 2002, at a local medical center in Pocatello. She was born June 10, 1911, (first of
identical twins) to Royal and Ellen May (Jeffs) Bills in Rigby, Idaho. She attended
schools in Rigby, Idaho.
She married George S. Kunz in the Logan Temple February 29, 1928. Together they operated
Kunz Studios for over 46 years. Edyth hand-painted the pictures and retouched the
negatives as they operated the studio out of their home. They also owned and operated a
700-acre farm and ranch in Bern, Idaho for 32 years. George preceded her in death. She
married Frank W. Kirby May 18, 1985 in the Idaho Falls Temple. He also preceded her in
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in various
positions the primary for 38 years and the young women's organization for over 27
years. She and her second husband Frank served a church mission in St. Louis.
Her greatest joy was doing for others and helping someone in need. She loved to fish,
hunt, ride horses and always hoped she would never get too old to dance. She found great
joy in being a grandmother to 21 beautiful grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren and 3
great-great grandchildren, four of which were twin grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children Betty Jo Hyman, North Hills, California, Barbara Ann
Otteson, Pocatello, Idaho, Gereldene (Don) Longenbohn, Quartzite, Arizona, Gary George
(Kathy) Kunz, Salt Lake City, Utah, Ronald Kent (Barbie) Kunz, Orem, Utah, Roger Lee
(Judy) Kunz, Pocatello, Idaho; twin sister, Mrs. John J. "Ethel" Butifkofer,
Coltman, Idaho; 21 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, a son, Douglas Ray Kunz; sisters, Birdie Keller
and Thelma Beazer; brothers, Clyde Bills and Jeff Bills; and a grandson, Craig Kunz.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at the Lakeview LDS
Chapel, 1440 Lakeview Drive, with Bishop Bart Reed officiating. The viewing will be held
from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave., Pocatello and
one hour prior to the services at the church. A short graveside service will be held at
approximately 2:30 p.m. at the Bern Cemetery prior to burial in Bern, Idaho.
