William "Bill" Thornock, 74, of Boise, ID, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2001
at his home. Memorial services were held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, June 25, at Summers Funeral
Home, Ustick Chapel, 3629 E. Ustick Rd. Meridian, ID.
Bill was born Feb. 15, 1927 to Phoebe Thornock of Bloomington, ID. His mother died the day
after his birth. Mathew William and Rachel Elvira Hulme Thornock, his grandparents, raised
him until 1930 when Grandma passed away. He went to live with his Uncle Leon and Aunt
Helen Thornock. He was raised as a brother to their children arriving the same month as a
Bill lived in Blackfoot, ID, graduated from Rose Grade School and attended Moreland High
School for 3 1/2 years. He went into the Army in February 1945, just after his 18th
birthday, served in Germany with the Allied Occupation Forces after the war. He married
Edna Elaine Hancock of Blackfoot in October 1945. They moved to Boise, ID in 1951. To
this union nine children were born. This union was dissolved. He then married Phylis
Ilene Adams at Blackfoot on July 31, 1965.
Bill was a member of Local #296, Plumbers and Pipe Fitters of Boise. He worked on many
projects in the western states. Bill was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Bill is survived by his wife, Phylis of Boise, ID, children, Gary (Tana) of London,
England, Ross (Carolyn), Jay (Donna), Peggy (Cliff) Worthan, and Steven, all of Boise, ID;
stepchildren, Jeff (Sharlene), Jerry, and Penny (Fred) Tescott, of Boise; and a special
son, Jeffery (Nancy) Shaffer of Boise; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; siblings,
Gwen (Ed) Gabert of Nampa, ID, Nyle (Ann) Thornock of Challis, ID, Nola (Carl) Phillips of
Aberdeen, ID, Jonni Davis of Bountiful, UT and numerous nieces and nephews. He was
preceded in death by four sons, two brothers, one sister and two grandsons.
