POCATELLO — Hilda Elthura Hoopes was born February 24, 1909, to Walter Henry Lewis and
Mary Ann Oakey in Paris, Idaho. She married Cyrel Sorenson on October 23, 1929 in the Salt
Lake City LDS Temple. They were blessed with three children and shared their life together
for 35 years. After Cyrel's death in 1964, Hilda married Jesse N. Hoopes on April 26,
1969, whom she was married to for 33 years.
She passed away on April 1, 2002, at the home of Darrel and LoAine Booth in Pocatello,
Hilda was a homemaker and raised three children in Ovid, Idaho. She later worked in retail
and sales. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served
faithfully in many positions. Hilda loved her children and grandchildren, and shared many
wonderful times with them building memories that will last forever. Hilda enjoyed music
and playing the piano, especially with her husband, as he played the accordion. She also
enjoyed crafts, embroidering, dancing, traveling and spending winters in Arizona.
She is survived by her children, LoAine (Darrel) Booth of Pocatello, Idaho; Arthel (Kay)
Olsen of Ovid, Idaho; Laurel (Elaine) Sorenson of Bountiful, Utah; and her stepchildren,
Ray Hoopes of Arizona; Ramon (Mary Jo) Hoopes of Phoenix, Arizona; Farrel (Sherry) Hoopes
of Fairview, Wyoming; a sister, Viola Martinsen of Blackfoot, Idaho; 40 grandchildren, 64
great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. Hilda was preceded in death by
her parents, two husbands, three brothers, two sisters and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, April 5, 2002, at 12:30 p.m. in Fairview, Wyoming, at the
Fairview/Osmond LDS Ward Chapel. The family will receive friends at a viewing from 11 a.m.
to 12:15 p.m. at the church prior to services. Interment will be at the Ovid, Idaho
Cemetery. Local arrangements are under the direction of the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral
Home, 431 North 15th Ave., Pocatello.
