Longtime Caldwell teacher Maureen Roehr passed away Feb. 16, 2005, at the home of her
daughter, Julie Hogg, in Caldwell. Maureen Brown Roehr was born April 20, 1923, to William
Wallace and Libbie Dustin Brown in Liberty, Idaho. She graduated with a degree in Social
Work from Utah State University in 1945. Maureen was a Psychiatric Nurse with the Red
Cross during World War II, stationed in Seattle. She then took a position as a Social
Worker in Phoenix, Ariz., moving to Caldwell about 1949 where she lived the remainder of
her life. In 1965 she started a career as a fifth grade teacher with the Caldwell School
District which spanned more than 20 years.
She was a stalwart member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served
her local ward for many years as a Gospel Doctrine teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents and older sister, Bernice Brown Ostvig.
She is survived by her brother, Wilmer Brown of Liberty; her daughters, Julie (John) Hogg
of Caldwell, Calli (Calvin) Smith of Reno, Nev., and Gerri (Dwight) Coombs of Boise;
grandchildren, Carrie, Amie, Deric, Emiline, Kristiana, John, Hannah, Lucia, Morgan,
Sarah, Butch, Peter, Rosie, Brandon, Kevin, Megan, Daniel, Maille, and Connor; and
great-grandchildren, Samuel, Sariah, Molly Ann and Lydia who were all the light of her
Her self-penned obituary was "I lived my life and enjoyed it!"
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, at the Caldwell L. D. S.
North Stake Center on 23644 old Highway 30 under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel.
The family will greet visitors in the Relief Society room one hour prior to the service.
Graveside services will take place Tuesday, Feb. 22, at noon in Liberty.
