SODA SPRINGS — Verlin Willard Poulsen, 79, of Soda Springs, passed away Wednesday,
August 16, 2006, at Spring Creek Manor in Soda Springs. He was born August 23, 1926, at
Paris, Idaho, the son of Willard Smith and Elizabeth Lakey Poulsen. He moved to Conda when
he was a small boy, and lived there until he graduated from high school in 1944. He served
in the U.S. Navy in 1944 until 1946, during World War II; then attended Utah State
University, Brigham Young University and later barber’s school before moving to Soda
Springs in 1949.
Verlin married Jacquelin Bennion July 4, 1950, at Elko, Nevada.
He was a businessman entrepreneur, and had owned the Cedar View Supper Club from 1972
until 1983. He had been a barber in Soda Springs, and he worked for Jolly and Associates
until his retirement.
Verlin was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Fourth Ward. He was a member of the Soda
Springs Lions Club, Elks, Kiwanis and VFW. He was also a member of the Oregon Trail Golf
Club. He enjoyed golf and bird hunting.
Verlin is survived by his wife, Jacquelin, of Soda Springs; two sons and two daughters
and their spouses, Blake and Ann Poulsen, Soda Springs, Blair Verlin Poulsen, Reno,
Nevada, Mardi and Dan Wheeler, Bakersfield, Calif., and Zan and Jeff Coonce, Reno, Nevada.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Ashley Wheeler, Marcus Wheeler, Alicia Wheeler,
Leigh Coonce, Blair Coonce, Jake Poulsen, Melia Poulsen, Beau Poulsen and Troy Poulsen;
also a brother, Gary Poulsen, Soda Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, August 21 at noon at the Hooper LDS
Chapel on Third East and Hooper Avenue in Soda Springs. Friends may call on Sunday
evening, Aug. 20 at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m., and on Monday at the Hooper
Chapel from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery
with military honors. Services are under the direc - tion of the Sims Funeral Home.
