SODA SPRINGS - Alma Arthur Bassett, 66, of Soda Springs, passed away Sunday, July 29,
2007, in Pocatello at the Portneuf Medical Center. Alma was born September 28, 1940, in
Montpelier, the son of Alma Alvero and Mildred Hayes Bassett. He was raised and educated
in Soda Springs. He served in the U.S. Army from 1959 through 1963, receiving an honorable
Alma was married to Shirley Marie Gandenberger on December 6, 1975, in Pocatello.
Alma was a member of the Soda Springs LDS Third Ward. He was a past member of the Soda
Springs Jaycees. He had belonged to the Teamsters Union for 35 years. He had worked as a
truck driver for Washington Group, Bannock Paving, Simplot and other companies.
Alma enjoyed hunting, fishing, being a backyard mechanic, boating, camping, and his
dogs; he liked to watch sports and especially loved his wife and family.
Alma is survived by his wife, Shirley, of Soda Springs; three sons and one daughter and
their spouses, Michael Gandenberger of Soda Springs, Raymond and JayDean Gandenberger of
Afton, Wyo., Arvin and Marie Gandenberger, Lynda and Brian Lewis of Soda Springs; also 14
grandchildren and six greatgrandchildren; three brothers and one sister, Evan and Diane
Bassett of Idaho Falls, David and Renee Bassett of Pocatello, Barry and Betty Bassett,
Shelia and Earl Hamp of Grace. Alma was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Billy
Gandenberger, and two brothers, Arlo and LeMarr Bassett.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 2, 2007, at noon at the Soda
Springs LDS Stake Center, with Bishop Jerry Taylor officiating. The family will meet
friends on Wednesday evening, Aug. 1, at the Sims Funeral Home from 7 to 8 p.m. and on
Thursday at the stake center from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in
the Fairview Cemetery, with military graveside services.
Services are under the direction of the Sims Funeral Home.
