I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the BILLINGS Family. The
first is identified as "possibly" Albert BILLINGS which was taken at the
Genelli Gallery in Sioux City, Iowa. The photograph appears to have been
taken in the 1880's or 1890's and may be a photographers copy of an earlier
tin type photo. This was sometimes done after a person died as a memento of
the person to be given to mourners. Albert would appear to be in his 50's
or 60's at the time the photograph was taken. In addition to the name
someone has also written "Grandma's Brother" on the back of the photograph.
The second photograph is identified as "probably Albert's wife" and was also
taken at the Genelli Gallery in Sioux City, IA. Likely taken in the 1890's
with the woman in the photograph appearing to be in her 60's or 70's at the
time. I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that these wonderful
old photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member
of this BILLINGS Family, or you know someone who might be, please contact
I just joined this list and hope to find some info about my Stahl ancestors.
Nickolas and Mary Stahl and family lived in Anthon , he had a butcher shop...I have the census for 1900 , 1910 and 1920. They were orginally from JoDaviess county Illinois.
I have found a list online that says some of them were buried at St Joseph's cemetery in Miller TWP.? Lou C.1917 , Mary ,1917 Nickolas Sr 1922 and Nicholas W 1911....there are 3 unknown with no monument.
How do I find who the 3 unknown are ?? Are there sexton or church records ?? Who has these records ??? I know that other family members must be buried there .
Are there old newspapers somewhere for Anthon...I would like to find obits especially for Nickolas Sr and his wife Mary.
Can anyone do lookups for me ? What is the email for the local library ? I was not able to get in touch with the library thru their ask a librarian form .
Thanks for any help !!!

I've "rescued" an old photograph of two children which was taken at the
Beamer Studio in Sioux City, Iowa. The pencil notations are very faint and
I can only make out one name, Olive ROGERS with an age, 16 years. I would
guess that photograph was taken in the 1890's or early 1900's. The boy in
the photograph is noted as 5 years old at the time the photograph was taken,
I just cannot see his name because the pencil writing is so faint.
I am hoping to locate someone from the family so that this wonderful old
photograph can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of
Olive's family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
Summer has arrived! It's a great time to get out and walk cemeteries,
take photos of headstones, churches, historical sites, visit with county
recorders and clerks, and transcribe records. All of the great
information and photos you collect can find a home on an IAGenWeb county
or project. So can you if you become a county coordinator. It's not
necessary to live in Iowa to be a coordinator - just a love of Iowa's
genealogy and the desire to help others. New coordinators are needed
for *GREENE,* *WARREN,* *LUCAS,* *GUTHRIE,* *MONROE,* *CHEROKEE,* *BUENA
VISTA,* & *FREMONT** *counties. They can all be visited at
