DILLON FAMILY
I am trying to connect my William-Dillon Family to his proper heritage and ancestors. I
am searching in the following counties for William’s movements during his lifetime.
William was born about 1822 in Monroe County, OH. In 1842, William married Elizabeth
Highley, who was living with or next door to James Dillon. However, we do not believe that
James was a parent of William. Most likely, he was a cousin or uncle. William and
Elizabeth had 3 sons- Abraham, Henry, and John. John died as a young man in Decatur , IA
and is buried on his parents farm in Decatur, His father, William, is also buried on the
farm --next to his son John. William died about 1876 in Decatur, IA.
His son Abraham, took over running the Dillon farm in Decatur. Son Henry moved to Davies
Co, MO. Their mother Elizabeth (Highley) Dillon moved to either Daviess co, MO, or
Caldwell co, MO. She is buried in Caldwell co and died in 1885. Her son Henry Dillon is
buried in Hamilton, MO (Caldwell County).
Son Abraham continued to farm the Dillon farm in Decatur county and died 1892 in Decatur,
IA. However his wife, Jane (Galpin) Dillon had his body moved to Lineville, IA which I
believe is Wayne county.
Both Abraham Dillon and his brother Henry Dillon married Galpin sisters. Abraham married
Jane Galpin and Henry married Emmaline Galpin, daughters of Ebenezer Galpin and Clarinda
Estel. They were married in Decatur, IA.
By the way, we are also searching for a Clarinda Estel’s family and ancestors. She died in
1876 in Decatur, IA.
I hope with all this detail that someone in Decatur, Caldwell, Davies, or Wayne, Delaware,
Hamilton or Monroe counties will be able to help me fill in the missing links, from either
county history or local obituaries.
I do have the names and dates of the various Dillon children connected to the Dillon and
Galpin families. Thank you for your help.
