William M. Thompson, proprietor of the Clio Hotel, at Clio, Grand River Township, was born
in Washington County, Virginia, June 21, 1841, a son of Alexander G. Thompson, a native of
East Tennessee, born in 1812, but now living in Washington County, Virginia. William M.
Thompson left his native State and came to Mahaska County, Iowa, in February, 1869. He
removed to Wayne County in the fall of 1871, locating in Warren Township, where he
followed farming till the fall of 1883. He then came to Clio and bought his present
hotel, which he has since carried on with success. He is also manager of the Clio Lumber
Yard, which is owned by the firm of Lewis & Co. May 30, 1865, he was married to Miss
Cynthia V. Dills, a daughter of Henry Dills, deceased, and a native of Tazewell County,
Virginia, where she was born May 28, 1844. Mr. and Mrs. Thompson have four children-Anna
L., Julia A., Lottie Mc. and Oscar G. Mr. Thompson is a member of the Masonic fraternity,
an organization in!
which he takes much interest.
