Thomas Boyce, 86, Garden Grove, IA died at his home in that city. Funeral services were
conducted by the Masonic Lodge and Rev. George Hall of the M.E. Church.
Thomas Boyce was born in Outwell, Eng., 19 April, 1831 and died 27 Jan. 1917 at the age of
85 years, 9 mo. and 8 days.
In spite of his early handicap he lived a useful and prosperous life.
On Nov. 30, 1851, he was united in holy wedlock to Miss Elizabeth CARTER; who was a few
months his senior.
Eleven children were born, five of whom passed over into the other world while yet in
In 1858 Mr. and Mrs. Boyce with daughter, Mary, their one surviving child emigrated to
America and settled in Sandusky, OH. In 1860 they cast their eyes on the west and beheld
the smiling land of Iowa's fertile plains and settled in Garden Grove.
Mr. Boyce leaves to mourn his aged wife, now very near to the gates of death; the six
children are Mrs. Mary Hoadley of Cainsville, MO.; Mrs. Susan Wells, Humeston; T.W., C.C.,
J.C. and G.R. all of near Garden Grove and 24 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the M.E. church conducted by Rev. George Hall. Interment was
in the Garden Grove Cemetery, Decatur Co. IA.
