I am happy to tell you all that we finally have new boards! They were
written by the Friends of IA GenWeb. They are very much like the old
boards - the ones we had before Ancestry took over! They are very easy to
use and there are no aggravating advertisements!
I encourage everyone to use them. I guess I don't have to tell you that
there are thousands of people looking for their ancestors! I think it's the
number 1 hobby in the world. One of the first places they will look is the
US GenWeb project and before they start reading individual web sites, they
will go to the board search engines.
Please be sure to post the information to the correct board. At this time we
do not have seperate boards for Will, Deeds, Marriage announcements, Birth
announcements or Bible records. Please post these on the Document board.
If you are looking for a certain family or person, post your query to the
query board. Try to give a little information about the family or individual
you are looking for. Please post your request for an obituary or other
lookups in the query section.
In the surname section, list names that are in the text of the post. Try not
to post all the surnames that you are searching for. This makes it very
confusing for "newbies" the first time they do a search and can't find
"their" name in the post!
I am hoping to get the query board gatewayed to the email list. This means
that every time someone posts a query it will be sent to the email list. By
doing this, you will know when someone has posted something of interest to
you and you won't have to check the boards as often.
I get email daily from researchers looking for information that I am unable
to help them with. I live in California so the only access I have to any
info is through the LDS family history center, the library and YOU. Please
help me help them by posting information to the NEW BOARDS!
