Our McCarty ancestors - Henry McCarty and his wife Sarah Zellers McCarty seemed to be very quiet about family affairs. There were several children that were never noted. On the 1880 census there appears a Harry McCarty born 1866 in Illinois (Sterling) and then an Amy J. born about 1870. Our ancestor, Charles Wesley McCarty Sr. was born in 1871 - another brother Frederick born 1872 -- and then the last child, Bell (could be Belle) born about 1876. No-one in the family has ever mentioned (or heard of) Harry, Amy J. or Bell. There was another son, Lemuel, who was born before the family left Lancaster Co. PA for the move west to Sterling Illinois. We had never heard of Lemuel -- until one of his descendants contacted me.
Henry McCarty served with the 75th Illinois Regiment. He must have stayed in Illinois about a year after mustering out. Then he moved his family to Tama Co. Iowa.
I would like to locate any information on Bell and Harry McCarty. Is there anyone available to do lookups in the Tama Co. area?
If anyone has any suggestions, I'd welcome them.
