Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
I have added an a marriage database option which allows you to search for surnames
that sound similar to each other. (This works by finding names having the same
soundex code as the name you are looking for.)
Later I will add soundex searching to the 1895 census database. I began to
realize how much this will be needed as I transcribed an entire township full of
"Oleson" surnames... which for the most part were really Olson.
The 1895 census now has four townships: Collins, Franklin, Grant, and Howard.
However, none of this data has been proofread and you can be sure that it contains
errors. I will not link this census from any page until it is completed.

I have begun to create a database for the 1895 Story Co. census. Over this past
week I have abstracted the census for Collins Township and have written the
software to create, query, and display it.
Before investing much more time in this I want to see if I am on the right track.
I would appreciate feedback on how useful the data is. For example, are the
truncated occupation fields worth including? (They are chopped off on the
microfilm due to the tight binding of the census book.)
I also need to know if the queries and data screens give you what you need. Any
suggestions would be welcome. The census is located at:
I would like to thank all of you who took the time to comment on the Marriage
Index. The consensus seems to be that it is working fine. Some have given me
corrections to the data, so if you have any let me know. Eventually I will
include "also known as" names in the database since often the recorded name isn't
exactly the one the person was generally known as.

Thanks for the marriage index, I checked it at once and found 6 or 7
marriages in our JONES Line. Also my McDanel (misspelled as McDaniel in
the records), nothing new but a great resource. Thanks for your time.
I had done a bit of the marriage research a few years ago, and it crossed my
mind I should have also checked the name Carnahan, and hadn't done so. Now
I have. I didn't find them...but at least it has been done. Thanks again
for all of your help.
Story County names WOODS, TIENAN, MITCHELL, CARNAHAN
I immediately checked the Story County Marriage Database and it worked just
great. I located numerous records of my relatives and related families. A
big thank you to Mark for establishing the index online and for bringing it
to the attention of the list members. Hopefully, this little list will
become more active.
I am researching the following surnames in Story County: EVANS, DAVIDSON
Thanks again, Mark.
