Can't tell you much more. I heard Cecil was accused of killing someone, by
accident or. But have never found out what actually happen, nor who or why.
I know my grandma, Cecil mom; had an article from the paper, which paper, I
have not a clue. But when she died, her daughter found it & threw it away.
My aunt would never tell anyone what it said. My dad was only 3 when all
this took place, he never knew the exact story; like the rest of us only
I do know he was born Cecil Harold Quaintance, grandma had him added John
after all this happen. I knew Cecil (we called him Ike, why I don't know),
he was a quiet sort of fellow, never married. He went to live with his
uncle, Cecil Leroy (Roy) when he was 18, found that on the censuses. He
moved around in Iowa, then to Nevada, California & died in Montana.
Not sure if any of this will help. Even after he died, my aunt would not
tell me anything. Grandma wishes.
Since you found the victim as Wm E Oliver, I wonder if something would be in
the paper about his death?
Many thanks for looking for me. Margaret

We have some additional information, not yet verified, and are looking
for more. It appears the Quaintance family moved around after this
affair - a lot!, and not only moved young Cecil from relative to
relative, but changed the common name by which they spoke of him, too.
Can you provide additional information bearing on this matter?
Be well! Best wishes!

Thanks for looking for me. I appreciate it. Yes, I also saw the
the Northwester Report, like you, was not able to copy. I am looking for a
bit more information. I'd think some paper would mention who was killed
how. My dad was only 3 when this took place. He has no knowledge of it.

I am looking for a news clipping in a paper in Mahaska Co&/or Poweshiek
Co, Iowa. I am looking for anyone that would access to the newspapers in
these 2 countries. I’m looking for an article on Cecil Quaintance charged
with a murder in June, 1918. I know the family lived at New Sharon before
moving to Poweshiek Co. Cecil was only 16 years of age. I would think this
would have been in the papers from June 1918 until spring of 1919.
If you can help me, I’d appreciate any help you can give me.
