Hello, Page List,
I am attempting to confirm the following story that myparents told regarding Harvey Martin Reed who was there cousin. Harvey Reed had fallen upon hard times unableto find a work, he had a family at home that needed food and shelter. One day Harvey saw that a local merchant hada cow hide laying out (I suppose the merchant was trying to either dry it outor tan it) so Harvey applied a 5 finger discount to the hide, and then sold itusing the proceeds of the sale to take care of his family. The merchant was certain who stole his hidereported the loss to local athories and pressed charges. Harvey was convicted and sent to jail. Here’s where I need help:
- Cananyone confirm this story?
- Whenand where did it take place? City, county, State (I believe Iowa)
- Wherewas Harvey Reed sent to Jail – City jail, Count Jail, State Prison (name of theinstitution?
- Howlong was his sentence
- Howlong did he serve
- Whatdid Mable Reed and the kids do while he served his sentence
- Wheredid Mable Reed and kids live while he served his sentence
Thanks Roland Martin
