Does anyone know if the divorce records are available from about 1880 to
1900 for Monroe County? If so are they indexed by surname and how can one
go about finding the records?
Also are there any microfilmed newspapers for Albia, Iowa during this same
period of time? I would like to use them through interlibrary loan if this
Any advice at all will be appreciated.
Thanks -- Sharlene
Is it possible to rent or get through interlibrary loan a microfilm version
of these census records for Monroe County, Iowa? I have accessed them
through Ancestry.com, but I would like to see the actual record and not a
transcription of it.
The families of interest are Stafford, Shepherd, Sheppard, Hewitt or Hewit.
Thanks -- Sharlene Miller
Researching the above families with connections to Monroe County, Iowa.
I have the following information -- Barbara Ellen / Ella Hewit born Apr 1853
in Indiana married Andrew Stafford in Harrison County, Missouri on 15 Dec
1874. Her parents were Richard Hewit and Rachel Rallston. His parents were
Andrew Stafford and Mary Polly Lang. His mother re-married after the death
of her husband and was Mary Cox in Harrison County.
Need information on Ella or Barbara Ellen. She is shown on the census with
her parents in 1860 and 1870 in Monroe County, Iowa. Where are Andrew and
Ella in 1880 -- they would have been married 6 years. They had a son named
Clayton Alonzo / Alonzel Stafford who later went to Thayer County, NE and
married Grace Everts, daughter of Tim Everts and Emma Sophia Rolf.
Mrs Ella Stafford married Millard F Shepherd in Monroe County, Iowa on 19
Jun 1884. What happened to Andrew Stafford -- did she divorce him or was he
deceased? When? Where? Also, where was Ella Shepherd in 1900. She went to
Nebraska with her daughter Sophia to visit her son, Clayton, but is not
recorded on any censuses that I can find???
Any information about this family would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much-- Sharlene Miller
