Hazel PAXTON was born to Hayne and Sara Myrtle DEYO PAXTON about 1899. Sara Myrtle married 2nd John PUTNAM on 11 Aug 1911.
I have a letter from Sara, commonly Known as Myrtle, dated Nov 8, 1898 from Moravia, Iowa, in which she writes (with my additions in parenthesis) and I typed as it was spelled:
"Dear Uncle Elliot (Elliott Chidester in Tacoma, Washington),
I thought I would write to ask you if you could send me 1/2 yd. of white ribon 2 inc. in width. Grandma (Susannah THARP CHIDESTER 1822-1903) gave Ma (Sarah CHIDESTER DEYO 1843-1917) a cane of Grandpa's (Zadock CHIDESTER 1816-1897) and I wanted to get a 1/2 yd of ribon from each of his children to tie on it. I thought it would be nice for a keepsake from the hole family. I remain your neice, Mrs. Myrtle Paxton"
I would be interested in knowing if any of the family have a rememberance of this cane of Zadock CHIDESTER's who lived in Mantua Township, Monroe County, Iowa.
