I bought the book:
Biographical and Genealogical History of Appanoose and Monroe Counties, Iowa 1903
from EBAY thinking there would be at least ONE of my ancestors in it. NO SUCH LUCK....but for the lucky rest of you, I have scanned the index and it is on my web site....
Found this while looking for Monroe County connections. This is the Iowa City Center Manuscripts Collection Listing for the State Historical Society....FALVEY is listed further down page
"Falvey, Katherine, 1904- , and Lawrence, 1901-1957. Papers, 1952-1963. Members of the Iowa General Assembly from Albia. "
Does anyone know if there is a Monroe County or an Iowa-wide Marriage
Index for marriage licenses issued between about 1910 and 1930? I have
been looking for a great aunt's marriage to try to find her married name
and spouses full name,etc.. All I have is her full name and birth date,
birth place. She may have gotten her marriage license in Monroe County,
but could have gotten it in any number of surrounding counties.
Researching: Peterson; Flodman; Shepard in and around Monroe County
I am trying to find the origins and parents of George PIERCE born 1824 in
Ohio and died in 1911 in Monroe co Iowa. He married Marietta MAJOR in then
Mercer co OH (Now Auglaize co OH) in 1848 and went with her family to
Monroe co IA in 1849. He was an early settler of both Monroe co and Wapello
counties. He had a brother Zachariah PIERCE also born in Ohio. He married
Sarah Jane KINDER in 1850 in Wapello co IA. I believe they are related to
Mary Ann PIERCE who married David HINKLE in 1836 in Mercer co Ohio. George
and Marietta's children lived in Iowa and Nebraska. Their children were
Sarah Jane Pierce m 1st Thomas FLETCHER and 2nd Peter DUFFEE (she died in
1910 in Monroe co IA); Jasper Newton Pierce m Tobiatha HAY (he died 1942 in
Trenton, NE); Levi Pierce (also living in Neb); Hamilton Pierce m Rachel
MAJOR (died in Cornell, NE); Nancy Pierce m George JOHNSON; Majorie Pierce.

I am researching the line of Hamilton MAJOR and CHARITY OPDYKE. Hamilton
was born in 1791 in Maryland and was probably the son of Robert
MAJOR. They went from MD to Mason co KY, Montgomery co OH, Darke co OH
(where he married Charity Opdyke of New Jersey) to Mercer co IA and finally
to Monroe co IA where Hamilton died June 1849. Charity died in 1881. Many
of their children and descendants lived in Monroe and Wapello counties in
IA. Children were William Bell Major of Clarke co IA, Lydia Maria Major m
Ethan S HINKLE, Marietta Major m George PIERCE, Rachel Major m W S Dowty of
Mercer co OH, Jacob A Major m Louisa SHEPARD, Peter Major m Elizabeth
NOLAN, Albert Major m Elizabeth TYRELL, Margaret Jane Major m Stephen
OSBORNE, Hamilton Major m Mary MILLER, Aaron Major m Rebecca MCCORMICK. I
am interested in tracing down all of these children and still have some
holes in them so would like to correspond with anyone researching this family.
I am trying to determine the origins of Peter FLETCHER, born around 1775 in
Virginia, died before 1856 in Monroe co IA. His wife's name was Mary born
around 1788 in PA. They had 2 known sons, Taylor (born 1824 in VA, died
after 1900 in Clay co MO) and Thomas (born c 1826 in VA, disappeared in
Wapello co IA after 1885). Thomas married 1. Hannah Varner in 1857
Wapello co IA and 2. Sarah Pierce in 1872 in Wapello co IA. According to
the 1820 census in VA there were Peter Fletchers in Henrico co and Berkeley
co. The ages given in this census indicates that either Peter was of the
same age as the Peter in Monroe co IA in 1850. Wife Mary was born in PA so
Berkeley co is a little closer geographically there. I have not been able
to find this family in 1830 or 1840 in the census records.

I am looking for information about the CRAGO's.
I find them in Wapello and Appanoose Co.'s . I thought possibly that they
may have been in Monroe co. also.
Daniel Crago is in the 1860 Wapello Co., census and some of his sons are
found in Appanoose Co.
Daniel had 12 sons. There is a chance some of them may have lived in Monroe
