We are sorry if there has been any confusion regarding our forbears. Our
great-grandfather Thomas Elmer Goodman was born June 16, 1877 on a farm near
Whiting, Monona, Iowa, or in Sloan,Woodbury, Iowa. He said his dad died
around 1888. His name was Josiah William or perhaps William Josiah Goodman.
A kind researcher found a William J. Goodman buried in Sloan in 1891.
TE Goodman was in Whiting 1902, but moved to South Dakota the next year. His
brother Ed was in Hawarden, Iowa before 1905. Ed and the other brother Oscar
moved to South Dakota by 1905. There was a sister Pearl, who may have moved
to PA by 1891.
Josiah William was not in the 1880 US census in Iowa. Thomas Elmer was not
in the 1900 census. We went to Mass. Archives. They do not have
county/state records. And of course, our great aunt who gave us the
information may not remember correctly, or our forbears could have been
listed by other names.
If anyone can direct us to books or Iowa census that we could access through
interlibrary loan, we would be very grateful.
Debbie and Sarah Goodman
