Does anyone have a copy of the book "Souvenir History of Marion County" and be willing to look up some entries? I'm researching the GROEN and RYSDAM families who were among the Dutch immigrants to Pella. An index to the book lists GROEN on pp 132 & 218. RYSDAM is listed as being on pp 43, 88, 133, 135, 218, & 251.
Of particular interest is any information on Jan Groen born about 1827 in The Netherlands. He is believed to have married Neeltje Cornelia Wynanda Rysdam. There are Marion County marriage records of a Neeltje Rysdam marrying Geret Thomassen in 1854, a John Groen marrying Anatje Vanlint in 1854 and a John Green marrying Nalia Rysdam in 1856. The eldest known child of my Jan and Neeltje was born about 1856 in Iowa.
A list of Dutch immigrants arriving in 1855 at Pella include the Arie Rysdam family including a daughter Neeltje.
A list of Dutch immigrants leaving in April/May 1870 from Pella include a Jan Groen, W. Rysdam and G. Rysdam.
The 1880 Federal Census has a John Groen with his wife Nellie and children (which correspond with the known names of our Groen ancestors) living in Sioux County, Iowa.
Any help anyone can offer would really be appreciated.

I am looking for any info about Melissa J. Carle who was married to
Simeon Breese on 11 March 1868 in Knoxville, Iowa.
I believe that they had a child named Leafy M Breese who was born in May
Simeon married a second wife, Barthena Elizabeth Jones on 7 October
1888 in Marion Co., Iowa.
Did Melissa Carle Breese die between May of 1887 and October 1888 in or
Were there any other children born to Simeon and Melissa?
If Melissa died in 1887/1888 where is she buried?

The Knoxville Journal of Thursday contains full particulars of the singular
death of a young lady near that place, named EMMA KARNS, aged twenty years.
A young man named COLUMBUS B. JACKSON, about 21 years old, had been for some
time paying addresses to MISS KARNS, and accompanied her from Sunday School
to Mr. Bunting's where she boarded, last Sunday afternoon. He remained with
her until midnight, or perhaps until 12:15. At 12:30 Mr. and Mrs. Bunting
were awakened by hearing a struggle at MISS K's bed. They went to it and
found her in a spasm. In a moment she said she was dying. He ran to the
house of her uncle, ALEX KEATON, 40 rods away, and thence to Mr. Shirey's
and before he returned she was dead. Meantime she had six or seven spasms;
at intervals she spoke a few words; told Mrs. Bunting that she believed she
was poisoned, and asked for some coffee to drink. Mr. KEATON soon arrived,
and she told him she believed she was poisoned. He asked her how it happened
but received no reply. She died at 12:45.
A coroner's jury has been summoned, and the young lady's stomach has been
sent to Keokuk for clinical analysis. JACKSON is suspected of knowing
something of the affair, but has not yet been arrested.
