Judging from the 1893 plat map of Wayne Township (guess where the map can be
found!), the cemetery was across a curving county road from an old M.E.
Church. Later plat maps show that the curving county road (about 3/4 mile
long) was removed, probably after the church closed. The county road ran
from the northwest to the southeast, ending at E-23, which runs east-west.
I don't have the date that the church closed.
The cemetery site would have been on E-23 a mile and a quarter west of the
intersection with X-44 (which runs north and south), also known as the Amber
Road. There is a farmstead shown on plat maps which is across E-23 to the
south and slightly to the east of the cemetery site, but I don't know whose
farm that is. Also, on Google Earth (search for Amber, Iowa), there appears
to be a distinct color change where I think the cemetery was located, that
is, in the south-east quadrant of Section 29, and on the line between the
southeast and southwest parts of that SE quadrant. Two different farmers
owned the different parts of the SE quadrant, so that could explain the
different colors on the photo used by Google Earth. It appears that the land
the cemetery was on was in the Rieken family for years. Whether it still
is, I don't know.
Please let me know about any corrections to this response. I just love
looking at these maps!
Thanks, Richard, for all you've done to preserve county records and for what
you are STILL doing!

Subject: [IAJONES] Burr Oak Cemetery
Can anyone give me some details about Burr Oak cemetery? I know the
cemetery was moved and that at least some of the people were
reinterred at Riverside, but that's all. Would like to know where in
Wayne township, section 29 the cemetery was located. Was it
affiliated with one of the churches there? When and why was it moved?

write another poor sentence."
