Ancestors of Ami Henry Spade 11/16/1844 -1/26/1921:
John Spade came to America in 1776 from Germany as a Hessian soldier for the
British in the American Revolutionary War. He was the father of John Spade
(1781-1850) who married in PA to Elizabeth Boxersox (1785-1864). John and
Elizabeth moved to Summit Co., OH in 12/1823. Their son, Jacob (1807-1879),
married Catherine Ann "Katie" Moyer (1814-1876), whose parents lived in
neighboring Stark Co. at that time. Katie's great-great-grandparents had
come to America from Prussia (Germany) in 1710.
Jacob and Katie Spade had nine children, the fifth of whom was Ami Henry
Spade. Ami was born in Middletown, OH. When he was a small boy he often
accompanied his father to the mill at Middletown where rye and wheat and corn
was taken to be ground into flour and meal. On one such occasion his father
purchased for him a pair of bright red boots, of which he was very proud and
had never forgotten. When Ami was 8 years old, his parents moved from
Middletown to a farm near Anamosa, IA, where they raised their family.
Ami Henry Spade married Rosannah Underwood.
