For some whimsical reason I decided to type in the name of my great-great
father (Hermann Mahraun) to see what I might find - and lo and behold it led
me directly to an email thread from RootsWeb.
I don't know much about him other than what I read in the 1910 census, but
his oldest daughter Olga Mahraun Fife was my great grandmother . I know he
was married twice and my great grandmother was the daughter of his first
wife (name unknown right now). I think the rest of his children were with
his second wife. I think my mom has a picture of 4 generations of ladies
back in the 50s - with Grandma Mahraun, Grandma Fife my Great Aunt Norma
Fife (Tollenaar) and her daughters.
I'm guessing that Amelia might have been Hermann's first wife - because my
grandmother's middle name was Amelia (Gladyce Amelia Fife Coffey. I'll
have to check with my dad's cousins in Iowa to find out what the second
Grandma Mahraun's first name was. She lived at least into the 1950s in Iowa
near my great grandmother.
I would love to find out more about my dad's side of the family - do you
have any idea where in Germany Hermann came from?
I hope to hear from you.
