In 1870, in the city of Monmouth, two little girls of the same age are living near each
other. Unfortunately, they both have the same name, and their fathers were both born in
Their mothers are born in different states, but in the 1880 census, after Mary Altyra
Widel marries Fred Garfield Pratt in 1878, the census doesn't list the locations of
her parents' birthplaces. She dies in 1893, after giving birth to 7 children, all in
while living in Monmouth. In the 1880 census, she and her husband are living with a
Florence D. Widel.
I figure she's one of the Mary Widels listed in the 1870 census. She's either the
daughter of Adam F. Widel or John F. Widel.
I know it's a long shot, but does anyone have any corroborating evidence to support
one connection or another?
There appear to be a lot of Widel/Widell/Wydel families that have settled in Jackson
County, all imports from Pennsylvania or Germany.
