Oops. Just re-read your message and it sounds like you won't be anywhere
around Des Moines. I would bet that the Morengo Library Reference Librarian
could give you a quick answer to all your questions -- might be worth the
cost of a phone call to save your self time and energy and also find out
what she/he thinks is a good place to stay. Sandy in Calif.

Subject: Research trip
We are planning to spend a few days in Iowa County during the week of
15. I understand that the Genealogical Society Research Center is in the
basement of the Marengo Library and it is open Monday evening, Tuesday -
Friday afternoons, and Saturday 11 AM to 2 PM. According to the website,
the Library itself also has microfilm copies of the newspapers and other
resources. What are the hours of the Library? Also, what are the hours
that the court house is open? Can anyone share their experiences with
working with the court house staff? Are there facilities at the other towns
in the county, like libraries, that might have genealogy information?
Finally, can anyone recommend a motel in or near Marengo? I will be
researching the families of Coover, Hinkle, and Ferguson. Thanks for any
