I sent this Email about 5 weeks ago. I'm resending it in hopes that
some of the newer subscribers might have some information.
Are any of you researching a McKINNEY family?
I am searching for further information about John McKINNEY, my father's
ggrandfather. He was m. to Emma Cornelia DREW; they had Marietta, b. 1873,
(m. Richard Lawrence BELFIELD) d. 22 Oct 1932 in Cedar Falls, IA; and Ead,
b. abt 1876 (?). We had thought that John, his wife, and their daughter
Marietta were all b. in Ireland.
Family information says that John McKINNEY died 28 Nov 1907 in Waterloo,
IA. However, when I ordered a death certificate from the Dept. of Public
Health, Des Moines, they evidently had no record of his death on that date
but did send one for the following person:
John White McKINNEY, b. 23 Oct 1840 in Indiana (Parents: James
McKINNEY, b. Penn. and Susanah WHITE, b. New York), d. 5 Jan 1907 in Cedar
Falls, buried in Cedar Falls. Marital status on death certificate:
married. (No spouse name give, no informant name given)
Now I don't know if this is our John or not. Can any of you tell me the
name and address of a cemetery in Cedar Falls where he might have been
buried in 1907? Does the public library, historical society, etc., in
Cedar Falls have lists of the cemeteries and those buried in them? I would
like to find out if any of the family members we know are buried nearby.
I did receive an answer from James as follows: I have a Serepta
(Woolley) Nichols who born in New York and died in Cedar Falls in 1884. One
of her daughters (Sarah), was married to a David R. McKinney but I don't
have any information on him. Serepta was burried in Mt.
Vernon Twp. Cem., Blackhawk Co., IA.
Thank you for your help.
