I ran across a article in the 1973 Mt. Pleasant News.
Wesley Chapel was built in 1866 just east of Cedar Creek Friends.
Julianna Hockett was said to be the initiator of the church per the
article thus the nickname for the church "Julianna's Glory. Does
anyone know how she relates to the Hockett's who came to Henry County
in the 1830s -1840s? I know this methodist church exists for quite a
few years but probably was gone by ca 1900. Some of my Hallowell's
belonged to it.
Also her friend Hannah Beard started a church at about the same time
nearer Salem called Hannah's Temple. Does anyone know who Hannah
is? I do find in the extracts of Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting,
Hinshaw's EQG that on 6-10-1865 Hannah Beard was disowned for joining
another society. There was an Enoch son of Paul and Hannah Beard who
was at Cedar Creek until 1864 when he moved his membership and his
families to Salem Monthly Meting. He had a daughter Hannah born
9-19-1840 but was this her or maybe her grandmother.
The newspaper article states that Hannah's Temple was to be a joint
project of Hannah Beard and Julianna Hockett but they disagreed and
thus the two churches close together.
If anyone knows anything about these two women, their families or the
two churches please contact me.
