I have referred to your website often, and I have to thank you for making so much detailed Henry county, Iowa info available to all.
I wondered if any of you might be able to give me a clue as to where to look for my one nebulous Wilmoth ancestor. <g>
My great-grandmother, Mary Rebecca [Dochterman] Early gave me this much in a personal interview in 1977:
Nathan Conner [1799-1883] m Almira Bennett [1800-1882]
Elijah Conner [1845-1924] m Mary Rosanne [or Mary Rose Ann] Collins [1848-aft 1910; her mother was a Wilmeth]
William Henry Dochterman [1858-1929] m Jane Fidelia Conner [1868-1944]
Mary Rebecca Dochterman [1899-1982] m William Augustus Early [1892-1982]
In researching census records etc, the migration pattern of my Conner-Dochterman line goes through Athens co, Ohio, then Henry co, Iowa, on to Scotland co, Missouri and then Clark co, Missouri. Then they went off to Appanoose co, Iowa and Black Hawk co, Iowa after 1900.
The clincher was the 1870 census record for Salem, Henry co, Iowa. There are my Conners -- Nathan and wife Almira, and their son Elijah with wife Mary, gdau Jane and gson Nathan. And there are Joseph and Mary Wilmoth on one side of them, and I. J. and Rhoda Wilmoth next door on the other side! I would be surprised if they are not related in some fashion.
The 1910 census for Mystic, Appanoose co, Iowa, family of William and Janie Dochterman gives Will's mother-in-law's name as "Mary Ellen Connor".
I was fascinated to see all the different spellings of Koelling-Kolling-Collins on your site. No wonder I am not finding my Mary R Collins anywhere! If she was a German miss with 3 or 4 given names, then who knows how the record-keepers wrote her name.
Does any of this look familiar to you?
I am aware of the Cynthia Ann WILMETH-Ezra CONNER marriage on 19 Mar 1854 in Henry co, Iowa, but have not been able to find anything more about Ezra, or any connection between him and my Conners at all. Although, my Elijah and Mary [Collins] Conner do have a son Ezra Conner b 1871 Henry co, Iowa. Perhaps named after this other Ezra, a relative maybe?
I am interested to know what you think...
