Searching for death record/obituary or family in Iowa for Mrs. George Brooks,
(above) dob abt 1874 Houston County, Minn. She was living in Woodbine, Iowa,
on Feb. 5, 1920 but died sometime before November of 1933. Any advice/help
appreciated. Pat MacEachern
my niece sent this to me and I like to share it with all of you to think about as we remember our ancestors on this memorial weekend.
HOW DO YOU LIVE YOUR DASH?
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
From the beginning...to the end.
He noted that first came her date of birth
And spoke the following date with tears,
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years. (1934 -1998)
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth...
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we own;
The cars...the house...the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard...
Are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile..
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy's being read
With your life's actions to rehash...
Would you be proud of the things they say
About how you spent your dash?

PLEASE HELP, I need someone to look up in the newspaper from Earling Iowa to see if they can find Millies mother's obit.
I am doing some research for an 82 year old woman looking for her mother's name (she may have been born by someone other then her father's wife. She knows her mother died giving birth to her, she also knows there was a child born before her to her father and her step mother. She doesn't know if her father was married to her mother, then married her step mother or if her mother was never married to her father.) The names she gave me was: Great grandfather, John Phineas Moore; Grandfather, James E. Moore, and her father John Nelson Moore. Her name is Mildred Moore and there was a child born before her named Malcolm Moore who died in infantcy.
>From sources from Rootsweb, I got the following information that may be her line. I need someone to look up the date of Mildred's birth (Feb. 13, 1918) and a few days after, in the newspaper in Earling, Iowa (where she was born) to see if there is an obit for someone that could possible be her mother.
MILLIE IS PRESENTLY IN THE LIFE CARE CENTER OF EVERGREEN, CO. SHE HAD A STROKE A MONTH AGO, AND A SET BACK LAST SATURDAY. SHE'S A FIGHTER AND SAYS SHE ISN'T GOING TO DIE UNTIL SHE IS 100 YEARS OLD.
