Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Seeking complete dates and location for Benjamin Franklin Martin b. Aug
1827-1831 (maybe in Tyler co., W Vir ) and his wife Christine Minor b.
1834. This couple was in Harrison Co, Iowa in 1860 census. Their first
four children were born in W. Vir. The last three maybe in Harrison Co.
These children were Amanda J., John W., Franklin Pierce, Benjamin Minor,
all born before 1858, and then Ida b. 1861, Eva b. 1863, and Spencer b.

Here is some clarification about the proposed changes to access to birth
records in Iowa. Below is a letter from an Iowa state senator to a member on
another list. Those in Iowa might want to contact their legislators to
express concern that the solution to the problem does not exclude genealogists
from legitimate research.

Thank you for your interest in the proposed change in the procedure relating
to copies of birth records. This initiative will be part of the Department
of Public Health's legislative package for the 2000 session.
I have spoken with officials in the Department of Public Health to
hear their rationale for this change. They have indicated that under
current law anyone can walk into a county courthouse and look at birth
records. Their concern stems, not from wanting to restrict access to such
records, but from a history of abuse by those seeking to establish false
I understand your concern, but there is a specific problem the
Department is trying to address and the Legislature will have to evaluate
I am unsure how to address this issue, but the Department has
indicated they are willing to discuss alternatives.
