Seeking info on my great-grandparents PETER McANINCH and wife ROSA HILLS and their daughters Jane/Mary Jane McAninch LITTLE and Vinetta McAninch KUNZ, and son GEORGE McANINCH, all of whom lived in Hardin county in mid- to late 1900s; the family was originally from Pennsylvania. I know very little about the girls' husbands and children and would love to find out more.
Does the following story ring anyone's bell? Most events took place in Alden.
Patience Laura Stratton (sometimes listed as "Laura Patience") born 26 Oct.
1866, daughter of Will Stratton and Mary Elizabeth Morriell. Patience married
first Edgar Button (son of Loren Button and Adelaide) in April 1885, issue
Oscar David, Alva, Laura Belle, and May? Divorced late 1880's/1890's. Married
second Hiram B. Adams Nov 1998, issue Clara Hazel Adams. I believe all of
Patience's surviving kids from her first marriage took the surname Adams without
benefit of legal adoption.
My question is of Patience's parentage: her mother listed Will Stratton as a
Union soldier from Ohio, whom she divorced after Patience was born. I have
looked at various census records where Patience gives her father as being from
Canada, or not knowing where he was from. I find no evidence of a Will Stratton
being in Hardin, nor of a Will Stratton from the area in Ohio he was supposed
to be from. I have not spent time in Eldora going over the court records, but
I am suspecting this is story is a cover up for an out of wedlock baby.
Would love to find another researcher who has info to share on this mystery.
Other families I am researching from Hardin area: Loren & Adelaide Button (he
was son of Albert & Mary Collins/Callins); Hugh Morriell & Mary Talbott;
Joseph Butler & Amy Moore (he was the son of William Butler & Sarah Foulke).
I am still looking for any descendants of Fokke and Caroline von Briesen Meyer. They had three son's, Meindert, Hinderk and Wilhelm no birth dates but probably born in Ostfriesland maybe Greetsiel or Visquard. Fokke came to America in 1902 and died in Hardin Co. in 1907.
His sister, Antje Meyer Boyenga came to America earlier than her brother and she died in Hardin Co. in 1936 and is buried in Grundy Co. Looking for any descendants of her line also.
