I disagree about Iowa being a boring state to drive through. I live in NW
Iowa & go to Des Moines once a year. I find it a beautiful drive. In
fact, NW Iowa is lovely country.

Rachel is dau to Asa C. Long and Rebecca Virginia Himes. She was born
Dec 13 1854 in Marion Co., IA. Her parents had both come to Iowa from
Illinois in 1850 and 1851; Asa b. 1826 KY and Rebecca b. 1834 in
Vermilion Co., IL.
Rachel is the eldest of fourteen total, all born in Marion Co., IA
except the last child b. in Guthrie Co.
I have shown that Rachel married Putnam D. Walls and they had the
following children: Sadee who married ? Ahatto,
Mary marr ? Martin, Carey, Putnam, Asa Ace b. 1884 MN d. 1951, MN,
Frank, Charlie b. 1896 MN d. 1951 MN, and John b. June 1900 MN d. Aug 20
1958 Sauk Rapids MN. That is nine total children for Rachel and Putnam
I have no further verification of the marriage of Rachel and Putnam D.
Walls and so would appreciate your source for Rachel and John Walls.
Perhaps I am not correct. But, John Walls could be a confusion with
Rachel's sister, Mary. Mary married John Hall Sept 21, 1879 in Marion
Co., IA son of Martin Hall and Susannah Key. They had ten children and
they continued to live in Marion County after the Long family moved from
Marion to Guthrie Co in March 1880.
I understood that Rachel and Putnam D. Walls went to MN by 1884 and
stayed living out their lives in Rice, MN.
This is one line of the Long children (of Asa C. and Rebecca Himes Long)
that I have not been able to trace further. So the three Walls girls
and five boys have not been searched on my end.
Rachel's other siblings:
William Anderson Long b. July 1856 d. 1860 (drowned in city well at age
James Powell Long b. Jan 1858 d. Mar 1936
Mary Long b. August 1859 d. Oct 1923
John Douglas Long b. Oct 1861 d. Dec 1934
Lettitia Long b. Jan 1864 d. June 1943
Jacob E. b. Jan 1866 d. Oct 1940
Charles C. b. Feb 1868 d. Oct 1929
Andrew Jackson (Andy) b. August 1870 d. 1961 Clarkfield, Yellow Medicine
Cora Elizabeth b.Oct 1872 d. Apr 1921 CO
Margaret Ann b. Feb 1985 d. Dec 1961
Ben b. 1877 d. Bef 1890
Martha Anderson b. July 1879 d. Mar 1949
Frank Guthrie Long b. June 1880 d. Jan 1962
So of the fourteen, twelve all grew up and lived full lives and all had
children, leaving Asa and Rebecca with many descendants.
I will be glad to offer any information you need further on this family,
as it is quite extensive. trtaylor(a)webtv.com
I hope to hear more regarding the Walls family who went to MN.

I don't know if there is any connection or not but I have:
Mary Evangeline Ware b. Aug 21, 1873 in Glendon, Guthrie County, IA. She
married George Spencer Wall on Feb 28, 1893.
I do know a person who is descended from this Wall. She is a lady in her
90's living in Salt Lake City and probably has much more than I have as that
is not my dierect line.
However we do have the common ancestor of Charles Ware who married Caroline
Wagner. I have that line back much farther on the Wagner side but Charles
Ware is still a mystery.
Barbara Wall Sherratt could perhaps help you more than I can. Her husband
has been ill and I have not heard from her in a while. She has a computer
but is not on line so all communications has to be by snail mail.
Her address is:
Mrs Earl Sherratt (Barbara)
P. O. Box 195
I am looking for any information on the WALLS family of Guthrie county.
Henry P. Walls moved to Guthrie county from Marion county, Iowa sometime in
the 1860s with daughter, Edith Jane; son John M.; and wife Sarah. They had
3 additional children born in Guthrie county - Ida, who married a Johnson,
James Marshall, who moved to North Dakota in abt 1910, and Lewis.
Edith, who married Christian Hansen, lived in the Jamaica area until she
died in 1933. John M. married Rachel Long in Marion county and they had at
least 8 children born in Guthrie county between 1878 and 1900 - Sarah, Mary,
Douglas P., Henry A., Frank L., Carrie B., Charley V. and John.
The 1930 Federal census shows that only Frank L. is still living in Guthrie
Any information you can provide on this family will be greatly appreciated.
