THE SIDNEY ARGUS. January 24, 1929. "YOUNG MOTHER CALLED". -- Ethel Leona
Cartmill was born August 2, 1902, and died at the home of her father J. G. Cartmill in
Sidney, January 18, 1929, aged 26 years 5 months 16 days. She was united in marriage to W.
D. Barnes November 27, 1920. To this union four children were born--Mildred, Robert, Ethel
and Melissa Belle, all of whom are living except the last named.
Mrs. Barnes had been in very poor health for some time. Three weeks ago she was taken to
the Hamburg hospital where everything that the doctors and nurses could do was done, but
without avail. At last she was brought to her father's home where doctors and nurse
still worked, but failed. At 6:30 Friday evening she bade her loved ones farewell.
Mrs. Barnes was a loving wife and mother, and was beloved by a large circle of friends.
Besides her husband and children she is survived by her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. Joel
Cartmill, and one sister, Mrs. Ralph Bellew. These sorrowing relatives have the profound
sympathy of the community.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the Baptist church, conducted by Rev.
Stauffer of Shenandoah and were largely attended. Interment was made in the home
Those in attendance from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Rogers of Tabor, Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Lloyd, Mrs. Don McBride, Mr.and Mrs. Tillman of Hamburg, and Mrs. Rogers from Council
