Probate records are on microfiche at the Fremont Co. courthouse in Sidney.
Maybe if you call there they could look up his name. The earliest I've
looked for is 1885.
And I have obits from then - one came from the Hamburg Baby News, apparently
a small flier type of newspaper. The other came, I believe, from the Hamburg
newspaper. Hamburg is one of the larger towns in Fremont Co.

I have an ancestor, Deloss W. Brown that died in Fremont County 25 Sep 1863
and is buried in the Sidney Cemetery.
I am looking for probate records and a newspaper obituary. Can someone tell
me how I can acquire this information?
Thank you for your help.
It would be very unlikely that you could find an obituary of any
kind for the time period your ancestor died. I have been
transcribing the obituaries from the Tabor Beacon and the first
one I have located is in 1887. Perhaps the Sidney newspaper might
have had some earlier but I don't have access to those.
The will index is on the Fremont County web site and D. W. Brown
is not listed but of course there might be other types of probate
records which could reveal something helpful, I don't have access
to those either.
There is an obituary index at the Sidney Public Library I
understand. I don't think this would do any good for deaths in
the 1860's and probably 1870's.

I think I found my 3rd-great grandfather's death date! At the FHC
today, on a newly-arrived roll with Fremont Co., IA, probate records,
I found a listing for William WOODS. Previously, I've not been able to
find a death or cemetery record for him, even though his wife, Susan
BALTZELL Woods, who died in 1883, is buried in Thurman Cemetery.
Would anyone be willing and able to do a lookup for an obituary for
William WOODS? I don't know which newspaper would carry it, but he
lived for many years in Benton Twp. I would expect the obituary to be
sometime between the 28th of March and the 4th of April 1899. I am
willing to pay a reasonable fee. It is so exciting to finally find a
death date for him!
<< Since I am from Iowa .......we are planning a trip to the East in a couple
of weeks and I would like to look up that cemetery hoping to find some Watt`s
or Erwin/Irwin`s.. >>
Hi ! Va Donna;
I saw your above message and wonder if you might be a connection to the
Irwin's of Fremont County, Iowa. My Irwin's & Reeves were from Meigs County,
Ohio before moving to Fremont Co. Iowa in the 1853's.
I am trying to locate the names of the children and also if Elizabeth and
William Mercer are buried in your county.
Elizabeth A. Brown married Joshua M. Brown Jan 30, 1848 had one child Nancy
born abt 1850. Joshua died Jan 7, 1867 and Elizabeth married (2) William
Mercer May 20, 1867. Both marriages were in Sangamon County, IL. Powers
book on IL says that same year, 1867, that William and Elizabeth went to
Would someone with access to the 1870 cenus for Fremont County, IA please
check to see if they find this family and determine if they had any
additional children? Also anyone with access to Fremont County cemetery
records I would appreicate knowing if they were buried in Fremont county.
Thank you for your help.

Surname: Morhain, Nies
Mike, I am doing research on the Morhain Family. Joseph Morhain, of Page
County, IA, married Elizabeth Nies of Fremont County, IA in 1878. They
had 2 sons: John Joseph and William James, and 1 daughter Elizabeth (nickname:
Lizette). Joseph was one of the founders of the Security Trust and Savings
Bank, Shenandoah, IA. He was Vice-President of the bank and served on the
Board of Directors. He was also actively involved on the School Board.
I don't have much information at this time on John Joseph Morhain, as my
husband's family line are decendants of William James (Willie) Morhain.
Willie married Lulu Mable Brewer of Page County, IA on Wednesday noon February
I hope this helps a little. I will contact my brother-in-law, Maurice Morhain
in Grand Island, NE to see if he has any info that might help you.

I have Rebecca Reeves, daughter of Joseph and Cynthia (Robinett) Reeves
was married to Michael Bowers in 1853. This was the same time that Joseph
moved to Fremont County, Iowa, so she could have married either in Meigs
County Ohio or Fremont County, Iowa.
Susanna Reeves was born 1832 Athens County, Ohio. She married Eliphus Haning
in 1852 at Meigs Co. Ohio and they moved from Scipio Twp., to Scott Twp.
Fremont Co. Iowa in 1854.
After Eliphus Haning's death in 1856, the three children were given to the
guardianship of Stacy Reeves.
Susannah re-married to Isaac Lane on July 11, 1857 at Fremont Co. Iowa.
It is thought that the son, William Haning died about 1856. The daughter,
Cyntha Ann was released from Stacy's guardianship on April 17, 1875. She was
married the following year, Dec. 21, 1876 to John C. Irwin.
Any information regarding this family, would be great to hear.
Looking for info on Thomas Henry Brown b. England. Wife was Nancy

City, NE to Denver, CO. Zack married Rosa Monroe and they had sons Paul
b. 1911 and Roy 1913. Zack was a cowboy down on the river bottom... in

Hi ! Elsie;
So nice of you to think of me about the Reeves families.
Most of my Reeves and Irwin connections moved from Meigs, Ohio to Fremont
county, Iowa in 1853. My Reeves line is from Richard b. 1759 who had a son
Joseph b. 1808 in Athens. Joseph & Cyntha (Robinett) Reeves had 10 children
from 1832 thru 1852, all in Scipio, Meigs county, Ohio. I am not sure how
many children were left behind in Ohio, when they made the move to Iowa. One
of the children, Mariah Della Reeves b. 1842 was my Great Grandmother and a
child of eleven when the Reeves and Irwins made their move. Mariah Reeves
married a son of Hugh Irwin, an early pioneer of Meigs, after both families
settled in Iowa.

There I go again assuming.
Fremont County is in Iowa and Riverton is the town in Fremont County,
I have no Reeves from Michigan, but I do have many from Meigs County, Ohio.
None from Pickaway, Ohio that I know of.
My Great-Grandmother Mariah Della (Reeves) Irwin lived in Fremont Co. a great
portion of her life. Around 1881 she married a Rev. Connor and moved to
Kansas. She returned in 1891 to Riverton to live with her brother Amos Reeves
until his death in 1926. I am interested in finding any information regarding
the Rev. Conner. I am sure he must have either been from Fremont County or
married Mariah there before moving on to Kansas.
