Henry Herman Schmidt
Henry Herman Schmidt, son of John Edward and Ella Jane Schmidt, died at the Dickinson
County Memorial Hospital at 2:30 p.m. June 27, 1967, at the age of 78 years, 11 months and
He was born near Blairstown July 6, 1888, and moved with his parents to Dickinson county
where he had resided the rest of his life except for four years when the family lived in
He was united in marriage to Mabel Marie Olson on Feb. 25, 1914, in Estherville and they
lived most of their married life on a farm six miles northeast of Spirit Lake.
To this union was born one son, Earl John Schmidt of Spirit Lake. Mr. Schmidt's main
interests were his family, the education of young people and his life long vocation. He
served on the local and county school boards for many years and his contributions to them
will be long remembered.
Mr. Schmidt is survived by his wife; his son Earl; six grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. G. J. Olson of Wilmar, Minn, Mrs. F. V. Reaney of
Spirit Lake, Mrs. B. D. Orr of Sheldon, and Mrs. R. P. Atkinson of Emmetsburg; also many
nieces and nephews and host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church June 29, with the Rev. B. J. Swede
officiating. Burial was in the Lakeview Cemetery. Pallbearers were Burney Daniels, R. C.
Mathews, Drexel Griffee, Albert Griffee, Sid Northey and Herb Dean. Harpole-Tenold
Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
