St. Ansgar IA Enterprise - July, 1932
The home of Mr. & Mrs. H. N. Gaarder in Osage, IA was the scene of a wedding
Thursday evening at 8 o'clock when their niece, Miss Alice Fossey, daughter of
Otto Fossey, was united in marriage with Mr. Vernon Smesrud, son of Mr. & Mrs.
H. E. Smesrud. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. O. M.
Langehough of Lyle, MN in the presence of 40 relatives and friends.
Preceding the ceremony, a violin solo "Souvenir" was played by Bruce
Lybarger, and "I Love You Truly" was sung by Marie Smesrud, a sister of the
bridegroom. Grace Martin, a cousin of the bride, played the wedding march
from "Lohengrin".
The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a white
embroidered organdy dress and carried a bouquet of Ophelia roses. She was
attended by her sister, Miss Irene Fossey, of Mason City, who wore a dress of
yellow embroidered eyelet and carried white roses. The bridegroom was
attended by Lawrence Priem.
At the close of the ceremony, a trio composed of Bruce Lybarger, violinist;
Elaine Gaarder, cellist; and Doris Dieterich, pianist, gave a group of
selections.
After the wedding, a two course luncheon was served by the Misses Hazel
Sedlacek, Kathryn Norby, Edna and Loraine Mundt, Dorothy Best and Anita
Gaarder. The color scheme of yellow and white was carried out. The wedding
cake, which was baked by the bride's grandmother, Mrs. Chris Hansen of Osage,
was cut by the bride and a piece given to each guest.
The bride is a graduate of Osage high school and since her graduation has
been assisting her father. The bridegroom graduated from St. Ansgar high
school in 1926 and for the past five years has been employed by the Swift
Produce Company.
On Friday morning the couple left for a trip to Wisconsin.
