Genies Members and Visitors,
We are having two guest speakers this year. In September we are having
Michele McNabb from the national Danish Immigrant Museum in Elk Horn and
in October (in Spencer) we are having Rhonda Rosenboom from the O'Brien
County Extension Office for the program "Who Gets Grandma's Yellow Pie
Plate?". There are several ways you can help with our September
"Danes in Iowa" Seminar:
*E-mail me back (so I know where we're at) if you can help in one or
more the following ways:*
1. Make/donate any kind of Danish food or cold drink for the lunch
following the seminar (a recipe would be nice)
2. Take the news release (attached) to the newspaper offices in the
surrounding towns in your area around August 21st.
3. -or- send me the email addresses of local newspapers in your
4. Take photos the day of the seminar
5. Donate financially. It will cost around $100 to have Michele
come (mileage and honorarium). We already have $50 donated. If you want
to donate $$, make a check out to "The Computer Genies of NW Iowa" and
send it to
The Computer Genies of NW Iowa

* 6. Print several copies of the flyer with the red Danish flag
(attached) and post them in heavily-traveled stores (grocery
stores/banks/convenience stores/etc. ) in your area towns by the middle
7. Forward this email to your Danish friends and relatives.
* 8. Forward this email to other genealogy groups. Do this *soon
*so they can announce the seminar at their August meetings.
* 9. If you belong to another genealogy group, print some flyers
and take along to your meeting.
10. If you have an email address listing for other genealogy groups,
let me know.
11. Sit by the sign-in table at the seminar, take donations and
pass out Genies' visitor folders (we need to make a few more)
12. Help get the lunch ready the day of the seminar
13. Help get Michele's laptop hooked up to the new projector at the
library at 12:30 (I am the opposite of "techy")
14. Be a "mingler" with visitors at the seminar to make them feel
15. Bring promotional brochures, etc. from near-by genealogy groups
and events or from IGS (for the registration table)
15. Other ideas???
Personal Note: Michele was a speaker at the *National *Genealogical
Conference in Chicago this last June! *Quite an honor!* She will be
bringing a pile of handouts and will crowd the 2 hours with lots and
lots of information. Dean and I met Michele earlier this year when we
traveled down to Elk Horn. She's very knowledgeable, hard-working,
personable and helpful. You won't be disappointed.
Again, let me know (in the next week or so) what you will do so we
don't overlap AND we don't miss anything.
Thanks for everything!
Med venlig hilsen,
Remsen, Iowa 51050
