I am interested in what genealogical research capabilities are
available in Crawford County, my grandfather being born there in 1888, with two
previous generations buried about Dow City.
I am sure to have many cousins living about the county through my
great-aunt Mary Carey Blackman, b.1888, who married Claude Blackman, who
resided in Denison. She had a large family with one daughter being a regular
corresponded with my father. I can recall once, in the late 50's, aunt Mary
visiting our home in Niles, Michigan, just north of South Bend, Indiana, while on
family vacation, in '64, I can remember visiting the one daughter who was
familiar with my father, in Earling; her full name was Margaret Blackman Beck and,
in 1964, had remarried a man with a Ukrainian name.
My great aunt had a twin brother named John who had one son named
William (?) he remained about Dow City on a farm.
The parents of my grandfather were George Washington Carey, b.
1852, and Anna Munson (according to my family history), b. 1865. The previous
generation was Ambrose D. Carey, b. 1823, and Hannah Hayes who lived in Paradise

Hi, anyone on the Crawford County list ever need to look up information, about towns in Iowa that their ancestors may have lived in, but the town is now gone. like where the town was located or when it was there, Find the names and locations of old towns that have moved or otherwise just disappeared. Check out this site www.iowaghosttowns.com
It lists towns that have disappeared. The towns etc. are listed there as "Ghost Towns" which are towns that have disappeared or almost gone.
