Services were held at the Witt Funeral Home in Elkader on February 6, 1974, for Benjamin
L. Zurcher, with Rev. R. W. Pacholke of Garden City United Methodist Church of Monona
officiating. Pallbearers were: Otto Fascher, Orlando Fascher, Elmer Radloff, Willis
Meier, Harland Kutzbach and John Bossard. Burial was in Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery.
Benjamin L. Zurcher, son of Gottlieb and Christine Schiff Zurcher was born August 15,
1889, in Farmersburg Township, Clayton Co., Iowa. He passed away at the Elkader Care
Center in Elkader, Iowa, on Feb. 3, 1974, after a short illness.
He spent all of his life in the Farmersburg area, farming until he retired in 1950. He
obtained his education in the Farmersburg High School. He worked at various places until
he moved to the Uriell Boarding Home in Garnavillo in 1960. He moved to the Elkader Care
Center in 1973. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers: Herbert, Emil and Truman
He leaves to remember him a sister-in-law, Mrs. Pearl Zurcher of Monona, three nephews,
Glendor Zurcher of Elkader, and Herbert and Clarence Zurcher of Farmersburg, and one
niece, Mrs. Lyman Ferguson, Monona.
