Another place that had a button factory and still does is Lansing Iowa
in Allamakee Co. just north of Clayton Co. The factory there made pearl
buttons from the shells found in the river. Today, they package
"plastic" buttons still under the name Lansing Buttons. If you go into
any fabric store you will probably see that name on the label of
Grace, born in Allamakee Co.

I don't know about other places they had pearl button factories, but
was one in Guttenberg. My great-grandfather worked there. The last
were in Guttenberg, we visited the site, and there were still piles of
with holes in them. We picked up some for our grandchildren's
mementos of places their ancestors lived and worked. There was a
close by where we had lunch and they told us a little about the area.
