SATURDAY BLAZE CLAIMS MONONA FOUR-YEAR OLD
A Saturday morning, Feb. 25 house fire claimed the life of four-year old
Justin Cahoon, son of Nathan and Melanie Cahoon of rural Monona. The fire
reportedly began when the young boy and his five-year old brother, Jacob, were
playing with the wood stove that heated the home at 211 Suttle Creek Road
about five miles northeast of Monona, near the Allamakee-Clayton county line.
When Monona firefighters arrived on the scene, the home was engulfed in
flames.
According to family sources, Jacob ran to find his mother when the fire began,
but Justin apparently ran in another direction. After taking Jacob outside to
safety, Melanie returned into the blazing home to search further, but could
not find Justin. Reports indicate that his body was later found in a bedroom
closet, where it is believed he tried to hide from the flames.
A notice of funeral services for Justin Cahoon can be found on Page 5 of this
weeks edition of The Standard.
