I must say that is hasn't been my experience at all but then I haven't
asked them to look things up for me--I have gone in and asked to see the
birth records and they bring out the book I need. If I want to look at
another book they accomodate without any indication they would rather not
help me. I've spent 4 hours there on two separate occations and found the
employees pleasant. Jean has worked there since 1948, there isn't much she
doesn't know about Clayton County.
Keep in mind that Clayton County is VERY active genealogically, much, much
more so than Allamakee County which borders Clayton. Perhaps you would be
better served by the Clayton County Genealogical Society. Their address is
on the "Resources" page on the Clayton County homepage.
I was reading your message about your surname Taake. I was wondering if you
know of a Sylvester (Shanty) Tayek. Could Tayek be a version of Taak.
Sylvester married a Grace Gorkow Clinton in 1856 or 66 in McGregor.
Curious to see if there could be a link
