Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

My Grandmother also worked there, but in the '50s. However, she does currently live in Cherokee, and I visit about once a year.
I do know that part of the hospital is now used to hold sex offenders. Now, I am unsure of the level of the sex offense (i.e. rape, child, etc.). I would reccommend looking on a government website for it, and perhaps there will be a history of the State hospital included.
Also, I recently watched a show on PBS about the Dr. that performed mass lobotomies in the early days of brain surgery, and while at Cherokee, he performed 3 of them and all 3 patients died! He then just left the hospital and drove to the next one to perform more! I know what you're thinking becuase I thought the same thing!
