Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
My paternal grandfather, Clarence Richard Elvin, is the offspring of a
mysterious family! I have located relatives from three branches of the
family, and we all have some variant of the family having changed their
family name when they came to North America (which was probably the
generation of my g-g-g-grandfather). In any event, one piece of the
puzzle is an aunt, Belle. Family history suggests she was a dean or
provost of a woman's college. The only documentation we have for her is
the following notice from the newspaper in Toronto, Woodson, KS:
Toronto Republican: 21 July 1923
Mrs. Belle Royce of Lamont, Iowa is visiting her brother, Frank Elvin.
Mrs. Royce and Mr. Elvin have not seen each other during the past forty
Frank is my great-grandfather, and his death certificate says he was
born in Michigan 2 January 1853, the son of Joseph Elvin, born in NY
and Margaret Boukley, born in OH. His brother Cyrus' (born May 1850)
death certificate says birthplace unknown, son of Russell Elvin of OH,
and Margaret Buckley, birthplace unknown. Cyrus & Frank can be traced
in the census and each report they were born in Michigan, their father
in NY and their mother in Ohio. In addition to Belle, family lore has a
brother Ruthen (John) in the family.
