I ordered and received the Civil War Pension File for LORENZO L. ROBINSON. I was hoping to find a connection between him and my Robinson family. My GGG Grandfather, JOHN ROBINSON was born somewhere in NY (abt. 1792) and married MARTHA GRAHAM. Both Lorenzo and John Robinson lived in the same area in Iowa during the Civil War. According to the pension file:
LORENZO L. ROBINSON is the son of RUSSEL ROBINSON, of the town of Wilson, Niagra Co. NY. It also says he had a sister, ALMIRA S. ROBINSON.
He married PERMELIA A. WESTON on January 5, 1848 in Wilson, Niagra Co. NY, at the house of Noah C. Ward, by the Rev. Benedict, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
Lorenzo L. Robinson enlisted as a private in the 47th Regiment of Iowa Volunteers, Company F. He was mustered in on June 4, 1864 in Davenport, IA and mustered out on September 28, 1864 in Davenport, IA at the expiration of his term of service (100 days). (This is the same regiment, but different company, that my GG grandfather DAVID SELLERS served in. David SELLERS married ELSIE ROBINSON, daughter of John & Martha Robinson mentioned above.) [I have more information regarding this Regiment and its duty during the war if any one is interested.]
Prior to his enlistment, LORENZO ROBINSON lived in Desmoines, IA.
He died October 13, 1864 at Galesbury, Knox Co. IL of "lingering typhoid fever contracted while in the service of the US" (camp diarreah).
He had no child or children surviving him.
His wife Permelia was born sometime around 1829. (She was 35yrs old in 1864).
If anyone knows anything about this ROBINSON family please contact me at:
I also hope this is helpful to someone out there.
I am searching for descendants of Philander French born in New Jersey in 1812, migrated to Iowa in 1849, and farmed in the Buchanan area. He died in Independence, Buchanan County, Iowa in 1892. His first wife was Lydia Hance, his second wife was Mary Anna Van Etten.
You might write to the Buchanan County Genealogical Society, 331 1st St. E.,
Independence, IA 50644 for help in your research. They have quite a few
county records, and do research for a fee. The Mental Health Institute is
currently located in Sumner Twp., but I do not know just when all the
townships were formed.
Can anyone tell me how to access patient records for the Hospital, for the
1880's? Actually, even census records listing the residents would help
verify if this is the place Joseph Current was living. If someone has the
index for the state and federal censuses during this decade, would you please
look up that name for me, please?
thanks - marilyn Current
