Well, there were 8 John Richards from Iowa. Three did not survive the war but only this
one died at Vicksburg. You mentioned only Taylorsville, and I don't know what county
that's in. The database only gives the counties. If Taylorsville is in Fayette County,
this is may be the man you are looking for.
John A. Richards
Residence Fayette County IA; 24 years old.
Enlisted on 8/14/1862 as a Private.
On 11/4/1862 he mustered into "F" Co. IA 38th Infantry
He died of disease on 8/3/1863 at Vicksburg, MS
born in New York
(Buried in National Cemetery, Vicksburg, MS. Section
J, grave 7.)
