I pulled the information for both Albert G. and G. W. Trussell from the
Roster and Record:
George W. Trussell served with Company D, 6th Iowa Infantry. He was born in
Pennsylvania and was 43 and living in Unionville [Appanoose Co.], Iowa, when
he enlisted on June 25, 1861, mustering July 17, 1861. On May 28, 1864, he was
taken prisoner at Dallas, GA, and died while in prison at Andersonville, GA,
on Sept. 10, 1864. He's buried in Andersonville National Cemetery, Grave
Albert G. Trussell was born in Kentucky and was 32 when he enlisted at Red
Rock [Marion Co.] with Co. G, 17th Iowa Infantry, on March 15, 1862. He
mustered the following month, on April 10, 1862. On Oct. 1, 1862, he was promoted to
Fifth Corporal. He was wounded slightly May 16, 1863, at Champion's Hill,
MS. On July 1, 1863, he was promoted to Third Corporal. At Missionary Ridge,
TN, on Nov. 25, 1863, he was again wounded, this time more severely. He was
promoted to Fourth Sergeant on Dec. 1, 1863; and on Oct. 13, 1864, at Tilton, GA,
he was taken prisoner. He mustered out April 15, 1865, at Davenport, Iowa.
Appanoose and Marion counties are in the same general area of Iowa, one
county separating them.
That's such a shame about the portrait. It would have been a nice heirloom
to hand down to others in the family.
If I can help with any other information, please let me know.

No Sue, I really don't have much info on George Washington
Trussell. I do
know that he died at Andersonville as a POW. I am not even sure that the
other one is even related. But from what info I could gather out of a Genealogy
book that I have the counties that their units came out of bordered each
other. There was a large portrait of G.W at my great uncle's house in Fort
Madison that I got to see as a child, but when he died it was burned up in a
fire. My mother had a photo of me in front of it when I was about 12 but when
she died, my sister-in-law took the family albums and it somehow disappeared.
I have them now but that is one picture that I would have like to have had!!!
Thanks for your help and the info.. Tom
