ALFRED H. MCVEY was born in Fayette County, Ohio, and his education was
obtained in the schools of that State. When the Civil War came he enlisted
int he Seventy-ninth Ohio Volunteer Infantry and served until mustered out.
He then entered the Ohio Wesleyan University and was graduated in 1868.
Later he graduated from the Law Department of the Cincinnati College and
began to practice. Moving to Toledo, Mr. McVey became general counsel for
the Toledo, Cincinnati & St. Louis Railway. In 1883 he removed to Des
Moines, Iowa, where he engaged in the practice of his profession. In 1883 he

profession. In 1901 he was appointed by Governor Shaw judge of the District
Court, and at the following general election Judge McVey was chosen for a
full term.
